Anniversary

So yesterday was our 3rd wedding anniversary. Some people may not feel that this is any cause for real celebration. I mean, it's only 3 years...that's hardly enough time to work through too many marriage straining life experiences, right? In most cases, probably so. But who else do you know that, in their first 3 years of marriage, had to deal with the birth of a child, a layoff, a cross-country move, buying a house, another layoff, 18 months of unemployment, and still love each other deeply? Now THAT is a cause for celebration!

Sad News/Happy News

I received some sad news and some happy news yesterday relating to some friends of mine. First, I found out that one of my friends and fellow MOPS mom (and Maddie's friend) is moving to NC at the end of the summer. How do you explain it to a 3 year-old that her best friend is moving far away? It is sad for us, but they will be closer to family which is always a good thing.

But on a happy note, I found out that another one of my friends is expecting a baby in December! This is especially exciting since their last attept (about a year ago) resulted in a miscarriage.

New Primrose School

Well, Maddie is making it through her first week at her new daycare. The first couple mornings were a little rough. She clinged to my legs with all her might. She was a little intimidated when some of the other kids came over to play with her. But with a little distraction from some of the new toys (especially the kitchen playset), I was able to sneak out. All the teachers reported than she did very well for the rest of the day. She participated and played well with the other kids. Then of course came running with big smiles as a walked in to pick her up at the end of the day.

But today when I dropped her off, she walked into the room with confindence and obliged when I asked her to hang up her bag on the correct peg. The other kids were coloring at the table. When I asked if she wanted to join, she ran over and sat down, hugged & kissed me goodbye, and all was well. I think we made a good choice in moving her.

A God Story

At the beginning of the year, our church's youth group threw a dart at a map of the United States to determine where they would go for their summer mission trip. The dart landed on Murfeesburo, TN. Of course, at the time, they had no idea what kind of mission work they would be doing. Well, Murfeesburo lies outside of Nashville, and unless you've been living under a rock for the past month, you would know that the area has been ravaged by flood waters. So now they get to aid in the clean up and recovery.

Waterlogged

"Rain, rain, go away. We want to go out and play"

I've about had it with all this rain. It's rained nearly every day for the past 11 days. We've had over 5 inches of rain just this month. Instead of that "fresh" smell that typically comes with a sping or summer rain shower, there's now a damp musty smell in the air.

Good news: There's no rain in the forcast for Saturday's Heart Walk

Bad news: It's going to be HOT and the rain returns next week.
