Broken Appliance Of The Week

Why is it that repairmen feel like they need to tell you their whole life story? Our brand new microwave went kaput last Friday, so we had a guy come out last night to look at it. But while tearing it apart, he just kept going on and on about anything and everything. I suppose he was just trying to be friendly & personable. But in the back of my mind, I just kept thinking, "just shut up and fix the dang thing."

He thinks it's the magnetron that's broke. Luckily it's still under warranty (as we only bought it last July). He has to order new parts and will be back later this week to fix it (if I'm lucky, I'll be working). In the meantime, we brought up my old microwave from the basement (which I bought at K-Mart for like $80). I'm sure glad I didn't try to sell it in our last garage sale.

Last Night

We went over to Bryan's parents' house to watch the MSU/UNC game. Needless to say, the game was quite a disappointment (and slight embarrassment). MSU was so sloppy and they were outplayed.

But enough about the game. The real excitement of the night came before the game. Grandma Helman had made Madison a little Easter basket (since we're going to Chicago for Easter) and "hid" some eggs in the living room. Now Maddie has never participated in an Easter Egg Hunt before, nor seen anyone else do it. But she knew exactly what to do. It was like instinct. She had so much fun looking for all the eggs and putting them in her basket. Granted, it was a pretty easy "hunt" since they were all in plain sight. But she was so pround of herself for finding them. She even had fun opening all of them as they were filled with yummy "toddler friendly" treats: cereal, Goldfish crackers, & fruit snacks. I didn't know they were going to do this, so I didn't have my camera with me. Bryan's dad took some pictures, though. We even refilled the eggs and hid them again so we could get a video. I'll post the pictures as soon as he sends them to me.

Good Times

Aunt Marlene came for a last minute visit on Wednesday because Illinois State (where she worked after leaving KU) was playing Kansas in the final four of the Women's NIT tournament (in Lawrence). KU won, and from what I hear, it was a really good game. On Friday, we had everyone over for dinner - Bryan made a delicious roast beef. After dinner we were all sitting around the living room. Bryan wanted to put on a movie, but I suggested that we just sit around and talk. Marlene talked about how she has been researching her family's geneology. We learned that part of their family can be traced back to 15th century French royalty! We also played catch with Madison, but ended up throwing the stuffed football at each other instead. Everyone was laughing - this was way better than watching a movie I've already seen 100 times. On Saturday, we all went out to Lawrence for the championship game of the WNIT of KU against South Florida. There was a record crowd (for a women's game) of 16,000 people - 4,000 shy of a sellout. At first, they tried to make us buy a ticket for Madison, but we just went in a different door where the guy handed us an extra pass. The game was quite an experience (apparently close to men's game atmosphere, but not quite - according to Bryan). KU put up a good fight, but gave up too many points in the first half to lose by 4 points. Saturday night, Bryan & I, Bryan's mom & Aunt Marlene went to the Kansas City Symphony. The music was very nice. They featured Beethoven's "Pastoral" (6th) Symphony. However, the theater was very HOT. There was little to no air circulation up in the balcony where we were sitting. So that made it very difficult to truly enjoy the concert. Sunday was a very cold, rainy, & windy day. So after church, we just relaxed around the house.
