Weird Weather

I was just sitting here at my desk this morning, working away, when I glanced out the window and saw these white "flakes" falling toward the ground. Immediately I thought, "is it SNOWING?!?!" I knew it was supposed to get down in the 30s overnight, but could it have gotten that cold already? After looking a bit closer, I realized that is was just the blossoms falling from the trees. Thank goodness. It will, however, be 20 degrees colder when I leave work this afternoon than when I got here this morning.

Tummy Troubles

Bryan & I went to a Royals game Tuesday night. I debated taking Madison with us. The weather was a lot nicer than last time. But we ultimately decided to leave Maddie with the folks. It was actually kind of nice to have the time to ourselves. The Royals were losing pretty bad, so we left halfway through the game. On a side note, while we were there we saw some friends from church (who did bring their 4-1/2 week old). When we got back to Bryan's parents' house, we came to pick up a naked baby. She had just had an explosive bowel movement and then threw up on her extra clothes. So we wrapped her up in just her jacket to take her home. Of course she ended up throwing up on that, too. I gave her a bath and changed her clothes, but she still continued to throw up. At one point she seemed to have trouble breathingfor a little while. Worried that she may have gotten vomit in her lungs or something, we took her to the emergency room. It may have been a hasty thing to do, but I didn't want to take my chances that something could have been seriously wrong. So at 10:30 at night, we drive to the hospital (good thing it's close by). As soon as the we walked in the door, the triage nurse looked at her and listened to her lungs. He said that her airways sounded clear, but I still wanted to have the doctor look at her. Two hours later, we finally get called to the back. Madison has already fallen asleep (lucky kid) after a couple more vomitting episodes. Although we're now in a room, we still have to wait (at least there's a bed). Finally the doctor comes in and looks at her and asks us questions about her symptoms. As it turns out, she's just got a little stomach bug. And as for the breathing troubles, he believes that she had just swallowed some of the vomit and it had caused her throat muscles to tense up for a moment. Once they had relaxed, she could breath fine. After 3 hours at the hospital we finally were able to go home. We picked up some Pedialyte on the way home. Bryan went straight to bed while I stayed up to clean up. Madison didn't sleep well either. She was hungry because she had thrown up everything she had eaten. I was worried about giving her too much to eat, so I only gave her half bottles. Of course that didn't satisfy her for very long, so she was up almost every hour. I kept her home from daycare. Besides, I desperately needed some sleep. Madison was fine the next day. She hadn't thrown up since we left the hospital. I really enjoyed spending the day with her. We had fun playing together. I've really missed that time together since I went back to work. But you gotta do what you gotta do.

DC 3-Day '08

Yes, I’m doing it again - I signed up for the 2008 Breast Cancer 3-Day! I had such an incredible experience doing the 3-Day two years ago that I’m going back for more. This year, I will be walking in Washington, D.C. I’m so excited about this event, even though this year I really know what I’ve gotten myself into. I will be walking with Sonia again and we’ve joined a new team – Crewz’n 60.

This event isn’t easy, but I promise you, I wouldn’t be doing it if I didn’t believe 100% that it was worth every muscle ache, weary night and training walk.

I need your help. I am planning on surpassing the $2,200 that you - my friends and family - gave so generously last time around to help fight breast cancer.

Please visit my new blog that I’ve set up just for this walk. Here, you can make a donation, keep up with my fundraising & training progress, and see a video from the Tampa Bay walk two years ago. If you have any questions or want to hear more about what I’m doing, I love talking about the event. Thanks for all of your support. I’m incredibly lucky to have people like you in my life!
Don’t wait - donate today!

Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

What a game last night! I can't believe they pulled it off. Bryan, of course, is ecstatic and I am happy for him. There was much celebrating in the streets of Lawrence. I wonder how many of those students will be going to class today.

In other news, my parents are arriving tonight. I can't wait.

Sick Day

Yesterday I took my first sick day. Bryan & I had both had a run in with the stomach flu this week. Bryan got it first on Monday morning. I started feeling ill Tuesday afternoon so I decided to leave work early. I didn't have any work to do anyways. Luckily, Bryan was feeling better so he could take care of Madison. Although my stomach had calmed down by Wednesday morning, I decided to stay home anyways. I had no energy because I hadn't eaten anything since the day before (and whatever I tried to eat, just came back up). Bryan handled taking Maddie to daycare and I just pretty much slept all day. I'm feeling much better today, though still a little weak. If I stand up and move around too long, I start to feel dizzy. At least I can keep food down and I am slowly regaining strength. I went back to work today and was given somewhat of a brainless task to do. That is, it's easy and it doesn't require much thought. Perfect for a day like today.

In other news, Bryan is off to Florida for business this weekend. He'll be back Monday and my parents come for a visit on Tuesday. I wish I didn't have to work so I could spend more time with them and show them around KC. But since their only coming to see Madison, I guess it doesn't really matter that much. We're all going to a KC Royals game next Friday night. It's not against the Tigers. But considering how they've started the season already, it's probably a good thing.
